10 Top Nigerian Artists Dropping Albums This Year

Check out these 10 Nigerian artists who will be releasing albums this year.

One thing you must know about success is the need to work harder when you finally see it. Nigerian music has finally gained the world’s ear, all the more reason why artists are working harder than before.

2023 has not been disappointing. Since January till now, some of our faves have made history on the international scene. Rema has been killing it, snagging a spot in the Billboard Hot 100 top 5, the Canadian 100 top spot, and the Guinness Book of Records. Davido’s new album “Timeless” broke records and set new ones. Burna Boy killed it at Coachella, and Ayra Starr has been on fire. We could keep going.

The truth is that artists have been putting in work. Some have albums on the way, and we are excited about that. Here are ten artists you should look out for their albums.

1. Wande Coal

Nigerian singer Wande Coal is a legend in his own right. The Afrobeats star has been around for years and has been deemed a legend in the Nigerian music scene. Wande Coal is a vocal god and has earned a reputation for making good music.

Between 2021 and 2022, Wande Coal released several songs, including “Come My Way,” “Hate Me” with Olamide, “Kenkele” with BNXN Fka Buju, and several other singles. He started the year with “Kpe Paso” featuring Olamide and released “Let Them Know” last month. His next album, “Legend Or No Legend,” will be released on May 18. He announced that it was entirely written by him and would feature T-Pain, Wizkid, Olamide, and Fireboy DML.

2. Tems

Tems has had a whirlwind success in the past few years. The Nigerian star snagged a feature on Wizkid’s hit song “Essence,” and the rest was history. It became the first Nigerian song to reach the top 10 on the Billboard US Hot 100 Songs chart. Since then, Tems has been featured on Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” album and has written the number two charting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack “Lift Me Up,” which was nominated for an Oscar.

Tems has also been working on her debut album, scheduled to drop later this year. She has been in the studio with Guilty Beatz working on the album. Everyone in the world is waiting for the album.

3. Ruger

Ruger is ahead of them. At least that’s what he sings about in the hit song “Asiwaju.” With two successful EPs, “Pandemic” and “The Second Wave,” under his belt, Ruger has a list of hits in his name. The Jonzing World star started the year dominating the airwaves with the resounding hit “Asiwaju.”

Ruger announced his debut album “RTW Ru The World” in March this year. He shared a clip of himself working on the album. A release date is yet to be announced for the album. He kicked off the journey to the album by announcing a new single, “Jonzing Boy,” scheduled to drop this weekend, May 12, and another one titled “Bun Bun.” The songs will be the first singles from the album.

4. Olamide

It has been two years since YBNL Nation boss, Olamide released his previous album, “UY Scuti.” The project housed ten tracks and featured the hit song “Rock.” The “Motigbana” star has appeared in several features this year, including “Bunda,” “Ojemba,” “Kpe Paso,” and “Currency” with Young Jonn.

On April 20, Olamide released a new single, “Trumpet,” with “Love Nwantiti” star CKay. The song was an instant success. In February last year, he announced his next album, “Unruly,” and revealed it could be his last album. He then announced he would be releasing singles before the album drops. Earlier this year, news broke that the album was done and would be released later this year.

5. Fireboy DML

YBNL and EMPIRE star Fireboy DML has been holed up in the studio since his third album, “Playboy,” was released. The album featured the international hit “Peru Remix” featuring British star Ed Sheeran. The song hit number two on the UK Official Singles chart and charted on Billboard US Hot 100 chart.

After contributing to songs by Jaido P and Peruzzi, Fireboy returned this month with “Someone.” It is an Electropop/House track in which he sings about not wanting his lover to leave because he can’t find anyone else. He is set to appear on Wande Coal’s “Legend Or No Legend” album. According to several sources, Fireboy DML’s fourth studio album is done and will be released later this year. We hope he announces it soon.

6. Asake

It has been a crazy ride for Asake. The YBNL Nation star has had so much success since last year that you would think it’s his middle name. The famous Yoruba star blessed fans with the album “Mr. Money With The Vibe,” which charted in several countries of the world, including the United States and the United Kingdom. It spawned the hits “Organize,” “PBUY Peace Be Unto You,” “Sungba Remix,” featuring Burna Boy, and more.

After having a crazy 2022, Asake proved he had been working on new music by dropping “Yoga.” The song was very well-received by fans and was followed by “2.30,” another impressive single. It replaced Davido at number one. According to reports, Asake’s sophomore album is ready and will be released later this year.

7. Odumodublvck

It’s incredible how much change Odumodublvck has brought to the airwaves between last year and this year. We don’t know if you know this, but he debuted in 2017 and has since been working hard.

Last year, Odumodublvck embarked on a release spree that kicked off with the songs “Domitila” and “Amarya.” He joined B.O.C Madaki on the album “The Drop,” which was released in February. The project housed ten tracks and featured several popular acts.

Last year, he hinted at his next album, which is expected to drop this year. He also confirmed several artists featured on it, including Blaqbonez, Santi, Smada, and Ajebo Hustlers. Hopefully, a date will be announced soon.

8. P-Square

It has been nine crazy years since we got a new album from Nigeria’s biggest duo of all time, P-Square. Everyone was under their spell back in the day. Even when they commanded us to “get squared,” we didn’t understand, but we did get squared. LoL.

The twins are one of Africa’s biggest stars, and their split sent shock waves throughout the continent. After pushing solo careers, they finally announced they were back together and would kick off a year-long global tour.

According to Peter or Mr. P, that was a success. The duo are ready to do more. They’re coming with an album scheduled to drop later this year. Yes, we are excited.

9. Lady Donli

We are confident we aren’t the only ones waiting expectantly for Lady Donli’s second studio album. We have waited a long time to see that happen. The talented singer gave fans a thrill in 2019 when she released “Enjoy Your Life.” The album housed 15 tracks and featured some of the rising stars of that time, including Tems, The Cavemen, Amaarae, Somadina, Tomi Thomas, BenjiFlow, and VanJess.

In September last year, she took to Twitter and announced her next album titled “Pan African Rockstar.” In mid-November, she released the first single from the album titled “Hello Lady.” The dance track hints at a different energy for the forthcoming album. The album will be released later this year.

10. Joeboy

Joeboy is one of Nigeria’s most beloved young artists pushing Afrobeats in significant ways. Since dominating the airwaves with “Baby,” Joeboy has dropped more jams than most and stayed on top of his game. In 2021, he released his debut album “Somewhere Between Beauty & Madness.” The album had a relaxed vibe and was well-received by fans and critics. He has since dropped more hits.

This year, he has collaborated with several hitmakers and dropped solo entries, including “Body & Soul” and “Duffel Bag.” He joined Major Lazer and Major League DJz in “Designer.” He announced his sophomore album, “Body & Soul,” scheduled for a May 19 release. He says it was inspired by God, his family, the love of his life, crazy exes, his fans, and the tribe. He said he went through a rollercoaster of emotions making the album. That’s one good reason to hear it when it drops.
