The Nigerian Entertainment Industry has continued to be a beacon in Africa as the Music Space and its ‘players’ have all contributed in one way or another to the industry’s growth. One such ‘players’ are the DJs. This article aims to recognize vibrant and incredible talents who have continued to stand out in the DJ business. This recognition, however, is in no particular order or ranking.

Mastercraft

Born Sunday Ginikachukwu Nweke, DJ Masterkraft is one of Nigeria’s most famous DJs and has worked with several artists as one of Nigeria’s top ten music producers; his mixtape has been played on several musical programs. In addition to being a Record producer, he is also a disc jockey, pianist, and lyricist. He attended United Christian Secondary School in Apapa as a child and wanted to be an accountant.

He began his professional music career with Kennis Music and has collaborated with various musicians, including Flavour N’abania, Bracket, Banky W., Sound Sultan, Timaya, Lynxxx, M.I., and J. Martins. His hit productions include “Fine woman” by Lynxxx featuring Wizkid, “Kwarikwa (Remix)” by Flavour N’abania with Fally Ipupa, “Girl” by Bracket featuring Wizkid, “Chinny Baby” by Flavour N’abania, and “Jasi” by Banky W.

On its list of the Top 10 Music Producers in Nigeria for 2014, Leadership newspaper rated him eighth. Nigeria Entertainment Today listed him as the seventh-biggest music producer in Nigeria in August 2015. In addition, he was one of the Top 10 Music Producers in Nigeria, according to the Thisday newspaper, and has had an illustrious career so far.

DJ Sose

Thomas Amar-Aigbe, aka DJ Sose, is a Nigerian/Hungarian DJ most recognized for his unique haircut and large facial tattoo. He was born in Oyo state and is 39 Years Old.

He has been a DJ since 2010, and his jazz, rock, hip-hop, afrobeat, and classical music have caused many people to dance. His record label, Gray Tiger Entertainment, has been nominated for Nigeria’s Best DJ award. He has also appeared in various entertainment gigs and music videos. In addition, he serves as a judge for the prestigious reality program ‘Nigerian Idols.’ He is estimated to have a net worth of around $400,000.

DJ Lambo

Born Olawunmi Okerayi,  DJ Lambo may not be as well-known as the other DJs on the list regarding projects and collaborations. Still, different sources and reports have ranked her among the top ten Nigerian DJs to look out for in the future. In addition, she was recognized as the year’s top female DJ at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2016.

She has released projects as an artist, and Reinhard even produced one of her songs, “Drank,” which got many radio plays and favorable reviews. Before its merger with Chocolate City in 2015, she signed with Loopy Music in 2013. That same year, She was ranked among the top five Female Nigerian DJs to watch in 2015 by Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET).

In 2017, Big Brother Naija, a reality television program, selected DJ Lambo to perform during the Season 2 Saturday party. She currently serves as president and CEO of Choc Boi Nation (CBN), a division of Chocolate City, one of the biggest record labels in the nation. This makes her one of the first female label executives in Nigeria.

DJ Cuppy

Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, better known by her stage as DJ Cuppy, is the daughter of well-known tycoon and businessman Femi Otedola. She is a Nigerian performer, producer, and musician who has revolutionized how many see Nigerian entertainment scenes and their stereotyping nature.

Cuppy spent her first six years at Ilupeju before relocating to Ikeja, where she attended Grange School, Ikeja. She afterward moved to London to study for her GCSEs and A-Levels. In July 2014, she received her business and economics degree from King’s College London. 2015 saw her graduate with a master’s in Music business from New York University. As of October 2021, Cuppy was enrolled at the University of Oxford and was studying for a master’s degree in African Studies.

She has a net worth of over $2.5 million, making her one of the most prosperous female DJs in the nation. She is now employed as a Red Velvet Music Group DJ, a label she is said to own. She has a long list of singles to her credit going back to 2017, and she has endorsement deals with Pepsi and serves as the Brand’s official DJ Ambassador.

 

DJ Neptune

One of the best DJs in Nigeria right now is DJ Neptune. His real name is Patrick Imohiosen. DJ Neptune was born and raised in Lagos, the Edo State. Before being a freelance DJ and appearing at local and international events, DJ Neptune began his career as a radio DJ on Ray Power FM.

At the 2008 “NEA” Nigeria Entertainment Awards in New York, America, DJ Neptune was nominated for several awards, including Best World DJ. At the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2009 in Washington, D.C., he was crowned Best World DJ. In 2010, he won the Tush Award for Best DJ in Nigeria. Additionally, he received the International Best DJ award at the first “AEA” Africa awards.

DJ Spinall

DJ Spinall, Sodamola Oluseye Desmond, is a multi-award-winning DJ from Nigeria. He is recognizable for his unusual outfit of a traditional cap, regardless of the type of apparel he is wearing.

DJ Spinall claims that the name “Spin-various” relates to the fact that he plays a wide variety of Music. His frequently released mixtape, ‘The Cap,’ has drawn much interest online. He studied at different DJ schools and received instruction from giants like DJ Slim, DJ Hotega, and DJ Jimmy Jatt. His bachelor’s degree is in Electrical Electronics Engineering. Due to his fame, many brands have him as an ambassador.

While becoming one of 2,300 members of “The Recording Academy” for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, he continued to push the limits of international boundaries. For example, in Beyonce’s “Lion King: The Gift” documentary, DJ Spinall discussed the album’s caliber and theme.

Spinall has performed on numerous significant stages worldwide, including the One Africa Music Fest in New York in 2017, Africa All-Star Music Fest in Toronto in 2018, and many others. In addition, Spinall has toured both Nigeria and the UK as a DJ. He signed with Atlantic Records in the UK, and his estimated net worth is $850,000.

DJ Kentalky

Another emerging DJ in Nigeria’s music industry is DJ Kentalky, also known as Ifeoluwa Ibrahim Ozimah.  DJ Kentalky works for Naija FM as their In-house DJ.

2001 saw the start of his career when he took the MTV Guinness Extra Smooth Train to Abuja and Benin. Additionally, he has been able to work with international DJ Mannie thanks to his excellent qualities.

DJ Switch

Obianuju Catherine Udeh, better known by her stage name DJ Switch, is a disc jockey, songwriter, and singer from Nigeria. At 29, she won the first season of The Glo X Factor in 2013. She is the youngest child of eight, a native of Udi, Enugu State, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, and a working professional disc jockey.

DJ Kaywise

DJ Kaywise was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on August 4, 1992. He is an Osun native and hails from Ile Ife.

In Lagos State, where he was raised, he went to primary and secondary school. After secondary school, he began venturing into DJing. With the release of the mixtape “Emergency,” which included a selection of well-known songs from the time, His swift ascent to popularity was credited to his inventiveAfrobeatn Afrobeat DJ while operating heavy machinery. Without a doubt,  he is one of the top DJs in Nigeria.

He has done a lot as a DJ, which has helped him establish himself and boost his profile. In almost every state in the nation, the DJ runs a DJ Academy (the first to be set by a DJ in Nigeria). He launched his DJ school, Kaywise Academy, in 2019, and in support of the EndSars movement, which began in Nigeria in 2020, he produced a mixtape named “Revolution Mix Vol1.”

DJ Kaywise’s street cred in Nigeria’s music industry is visible during his yearly JOOR CONCERT, which always draws a sizable audience of music fans. Along with other networks, he has worked with MTVBase, Nigezie TV, and WapTV. His net worth is thought to be over $740,000.

DJ Jimmy Jatt

When it comes to becoming a DJ nowadays in Nigeria, DJ Jimmy Jatt is the de facto standard. As a result of his persistence in a line of work that many in the past considered frivolous, Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt is now regarded as the father of the sector. The most famous DJ in the nation has his headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria.

DJ Jimmy Jatt was born Jimmy Amu. Under the stage name Master J, he began his musical career as a rapper. However, he turned to DJing after failing to sign with a record company despite having released a few tracks, including a demo recording. He is well known for the “Jimmy’s Jump Off concert,” which he established in 2008 and has become one of Nigeria’s most popular entertainment events. DJ Exclusive

Dj Xclusive, also known as Rotimi Alakija, is one of Nigeria’s best and most affluent DJs. He is 41 years old and has a net worth of $2 million. He was born in the UK and spent a significant amount of time there before moving to Nigeria after working. He is the nephew of popular business mogul Folorunsho Alakija.

It should be noted that he is among the best-educated DJs in the nation. He started his career as a DJ at venues like Vendome and Tribeca, and he currently works as an on-air radio DJ for Channel O and Cool FM Lagos. Davido, Timaya, Wizkid, and other Nigerian stars have been included in many of Dj Xclusive’s songs as of late.

He was signed to E.M.E Music at the time until it was disbanded as a record label and is also known with the tag phrase “It is I.”

DJ Big N

Nonso Temisan Ajufo, better known by his stage name DJ Big N, is a hip-hop DJ from Nigeria who is a member of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records record label.

Tiwa Savage, Rema, and Di’Ja are just a few Mavin artists whose careers have significantly benefited from DJ Big N. Additionally, he has produced a few mixtapes with Mavins themes, like “Mavin All Stars,” “Surulere Mixtape Volume 1,” and others. He is an accomplished entertainer and Mavin Records’ official DJ. He is also one of the DJs with the highest education in the country; He has an MBA.

Dj Big N began his career in the UK by performing at neighborhood clubs in the West Midlands, then made guest appearances at Club “Release” and the Palms Club in Coventry. He also participated in the 2009 Coventry Nigerian Independence Games, giving him a big break. Joe, Kool and the Gang, Maxi Priest, Dru Hill, Billy Ocean, and Dj Big N have all shared stages with Dj Big N.

Additionally, he served as the authorized DJ for the “Jarule and Ashanti” concert in Lagos in October 2014. He was chosen to be Mavin Records artist, Dr. Sid’s official disc jockey, in February 2014 when the latter went on tour. Later, he became the Mavin UK tour’s official DJ.

DJ Enimoney

DJ Enimoney, also known by his stage name Eniola Olamilekan Adedeji, is a DJ and recording artist from Nigeria. He is the younger brother of the Nigerian rapper Olamide and is currently a signed DJ with YBNL Nation.

After releasing his breakthrough single “Oya dab,” which featured Olamide, he gained notoriety. Since then, DJ Enimoney has recorded several other successful singles and collaborated with several Nigerian musicians. He is currently regarded as one of Nigeria’s best DJs and produces several well-liked mixtapes.

In Nigeria, he has played on several significant stages, and his “WOBEY DJ CAMPUS TOUR” is still one of the biggest campus music gatherings in the country. After completing his final year of high school in 2015 at Bariga, DJ Enimoney began his professional disc jockey career. With the help of Olamide, he became well-known in 2016 with his debut song, “Oya dab.”

With songs like “Oya Dab” with Olamide, “Diet” with Tiwa Savage, and Slimcase, among others, DJ Enimoney has contributed to the Nigerian music scene. The song “Diet” by DJ Enimoney, which features Tiwa Savage & Slimcase, received “Best Collaboration of the Year” at the Lagos-based City People Music Awards for 2018.

He received a nomination for “Diet” in the category of “Best Single by DJ” at the Nigerian Entertainment Award that same year. In addition, he has released a significant number of mixtapes. His most recent mixtapes are “This Is 2021” and “G.O.A.T.(Best of Olamide).” amongst others.

DJ Tunez

Adeyinka Michael Babatunde, A disc jockey with roots in Nigeria and the USA, is also known as DJ Tunez.

Wizkid persuaded DJ Tunez to join Starboy Entertainment as the official label DJ in 2015. Since joining Starboy Entertainment, DJ Tunez’s career as a DJ has favorably risen. One of DJ Tunez’s first productions was the infectious hit song “Iskaba” with Wande Coal In 2016. Okayafrica ranked the track as Nigeria’s second-best song of 2017.

“Turn Up,” Featuring Wizkid & Reekado Banks by DJ Tunez, was released in 2019 and had additional vocals by Rema.

Also, in 2019, Michael Babatunde Adeyinka participated as a guest panelist at a business event at Columbia University. He spoke about the business of literature and art on the African continent with other prominent music industry members. Special guest Olufeko, a technology and design executive moderated the panel.

Additionally, he has more popular songs on his record as a DJ, including collaborations with artists like Wizkid, Adekunle Gold, Omah Lay, Olamide, and many more. About 1,700 people attended a DJ Tunez event, a Black Friday “Blackout” party, in November 2019 at Queens’ Amazura Concert Hall.

DJ Consequence

DJ Consequence, also known as “The Vibe Machine,” is a well-known Nigerian disc jockey who has performed at some clubs and radio stations across the country.

DJ Consequence has performed for Soundcity 98.5 FM, the African BasketBall Club League, Industry Nite, Club Rumours Ikeja, GIDD (Glow In D Dark) at Club Nitro, and WOTN (We Own Thursday Night) at Club 57.

His impressive career discography reflects his collaboration with numerous top-tier Nigerian musicians. To name a few, DJ Consequence has collaborated with Mayorkun on “Blow The Whistle,” Olamide on “Assignment,” and other artists.

He currently serves as Rumors Ikeja and Quilox’s in-house DJ.

DJ Obi

Following his world record breaker, DJ Obi gained notoriety. He is still regarded as one of the top DJs in Nigeria today. DJ Obi was born Obinna Ajuonuma.

His record-breaking feat established Dj Obi as one of the top disc jockeys in Nigeria. He was permitted a five-minute break every hour during the 240-hour, 10-day back-to-back musical fiesta. The American DJ Colossus, though, has since beaten his record.
