Many years ago in high school (1975) I received Book 2 of this recording on vinyl, as a gift.. I was smitten with Richter's clarity, phrasing and restrained emotion in interpteting Bach, which can in certain hands, sound either florid and overdone, or mechanistic and dry. Richter's interpretation is emotional without being emotive- in a owrd beautiful
I took the recording to school and it was stolen. I mourned the loss ofthe album. Over time I have heard easily a dozen different recordings of the WTC books 1 &2. None compare to this, in my opinion.
I got it about a year ago on Itunes and I listen to it regularly. It is in my regular repetoire of listening. Music for life.
Richter is the master!

I have listened to many version of the WTC over the years and this is by far my favorite. So many people play Bach mechanically, but not Richter. He has a wonderful singing tone and emotion unlike any other interpreter. Buy it!

This is some of his best work. I like this piano as it is not over bright as the newer Steinways generally are. The recording is clean; I am not aware this is an engineered sound. Obviously a recording based on the Russian ideology that a recorded work should be conservative and save the musical experiments for the stage. His playing is clean. The tempos are a little fast for how I prefer to play them yet are within the accepted rang. I enjoy both these masters musicality here in this some of their finished and polished work that has well out lasted them. Bravo
