According To Dame Dash, Jay-Z “Betrayed Him For Money”

They used to manage one of the major Hip-Hop record labels together, along with Kareem “Biggs” Burke, but now days, Dame Dash and Jay-Z are not close. In 1994, the trio founded Roc-A-Fella Records, which swiftly became recognized as a major player in the rap scene and soon outsold musicians who had previously dominated the mainstream in terms of sales.

Dash has never shied away from offering his opinions on the height of Roc-A-Fella, which have been the subject of numerous documentaries and think pieces. The business tycoon met with Tony “The Closer” Robinson to talk about his lengthy career in showbiz, and of course they also addressed Biggs and Jay’s rule.

During the meeting, Dash was questioned about his regrets regarding their circumstances and asked whether he thought they “could have had more together.”

“Yeah, all that, but we were friends,” said Dame. “How would you feel if your brother betrayed you for money? Would it hurt?… That’s the algorithm. It wasn’t surprising ’cause that’s what always happens. It was surprising ’cause no one—that’s what it was, we were breaking the algorithm, we were doing it a different way and sticking together, but that’s what always happens. They make one sell out the other, their friend, divide and conquer, that’s a normal story.”
