Asake Responds To A Fan’s Demise Following His Canceled 02 Academy Concert

In response to the news that a fan who was hurt during the altercation at his Brixton gig on Thursday night {December 15} has died, Asake has released a statement.

Hundreds of fans broke through the doors of the O2 Academy Brixton during Asake’s concert, according to police, and Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, died as a result of her injuries. After about three songs, the event was canceled because the arena was too full. Two other patients, 21 and 23, are still in critical condition. In response to the revelation, Asake released a statement saying he had spoken to Ikumelo’s family and “will continue to do so.”

The venue’s owners, Academy Music Group (AMG), who also own the other O2 Academy venues throughout the country, have also responded to the news with a message on social media via their press office.

The Metropolitan Police are conducting an immediate investigation, reviewing video from both police body-worn cameras and footage provided on social media via SkyNews. In the wake of the incident, 2ManyDJs rescheduled their scheduled performance at the venue Saturday night (December 17). The performance has been moved to February 18.
