Ayra Starr Opens Up On How She Got Her Stage Name

Ayra Starr recently discussed how she came up with her stage name before her debut project’s release. In a recent podcast interview with Joey Akan on Afrobeats Intelligence, the talented singer and performer opened up about how she got her stage name before the release of her debut album.

According to Ayra, she has always gone by the name “Oyin,” which is also her actual name, but after sitting down with her team, Don Jazzy, Rema, and others, they brainstormed other stage names for her. She admitted that she originally intended to go by “Aira,” but she gave up because many people would pronounce it as “Ira.”

She revealed that her mother had instructed her to pray about choosing a name since she wanted one with significance. Ayra confessed that she eventually googled the Arabic name “Ayra” and that it became clear to the ‘Rush’ crooner when she discovered its origin.

The hitmaker said in the interview that she didn’t know if her track “Rush” would be successful. She admitted that she was hesitant about releasing it even though the team had convinced her to try it. However, she realized the song’s potential and gained confidence once it was launched and started to acquire popularity. After that, she had reservations once more, but the song became one of her biggest hits and solidified her status as one of Nigeria’s most promising new artists.
