Busta Rhymes Receives The Icon Award From Pharrell At The 2022 BMI Awards

Pharrell Williams and Busta Rhymes are two of the greatest artists to have ever created enduring melodies and gigantic beats. The success of their successful collaborations, like “Pass The Courvoisier” and “Light Your A** On Fire,” has shown that the Virginia beat maker and New York emcee are a formidable duo.

At the 2022 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards on Wednesday, Pharrell honored his buddy and regular collaborator by giving him the night’s Icon Award. Before welcoming Busta to the stage, the Grammy Award-winning producer introduced the Guinness Book of World Records holder and praised him for continuing to be a dominant force in the industry despite having one of the outrageous video budgets of “all time.”

“It was so f**** amazing to have this guy ignore me in a room,” Pharrell disclosed. “Listening to my beats. And one turned into a song for Kelis called ‘Caught Out There,’ and he listened.” Soon after, Busta entered the stage to accept his BMI Award. Pharrell and Busta then spontaneously performed “Pass The Courvoisier” on stage.

In a news release from last month, BMI Creative Catherine Brewton discussed the ceremony’s honoring of the 50-year-old celebrity, saying, “As one of the pioneers of Hip Hop, we are excited to honor Busta Rhymes as a BMI Icon.”
