Capitol Records Apologizes After Having “Severed Ties” With AI Rapper, FN Meka

The topic of artificial intelligence has been broached frequently, but music lovers weren’t ready for FN Meka. The AI rapper has built up a huge online fan base, with over 10 million followers on Instagram alone. Although Capitol Records’ most recent endeavor received mixed reviews, the computer-generated hit-maker has repeatedly gone viral on TikTok.

Although some have claimed that FN Meka was intentionally made to be racially ambiguous, it frequently uses the n-word in its rhymes. Additionally, there has been opposition from artists who worry about being shut out of the market, and following a surge of opposition, Capitol Records has responded. The renowned label “severed ties” with FN Meka, according to The New York Times, following a storm of complaints.

“CMG has severed ties with the FN Meka project, effective immediately,” said the label, reportedly, in a statement. “We offer our deepest apologies to the Black community for our insensitivity in signing this project without asking enough questions about equity and the creative process behind it. We thank those who have reached out to us with constructive feedback in the past couple of days. Your input was invaluable as we came to the decision to end our association with the project.”
