Caroline Polachek, a provocateur of experimental pop, has published a new live performance music video for her song “Smoke.” The video, directed by Matt Copson, debuted on Meta in the United States and Mexico, as well as on Instagram globally, and will be available on all other platforms shortly. The performance video depicts Polachek and her live band in front of pulsating volcanos, smoke, and glowing red glyphs, and emphasizes the stunning live production on her current global tour.
“Smoke” is one of the standout songs from Polachek’s most recent album, Desire, I Want to Turn Into You, which has been hailed as one of the best releases of 2023 and is currently ranked first on Metacritic’s Top Albums of 2023. Polachek sings in the video, “You are melting everything about me.” Don’t be concerned about me. It’s all vapor. And the aftermath doesn’t bother me. Please take a gunshot for my child. I know the one thing that will save me.”
Polachek performed “Welcome to My Island,” another cut from Desire, live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week. According to Pitchfork, NPR, Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vulture, The New York Times, Variety, and others, her impressive lyrical prowess and unfathomable vocal dexterity have made her one of the most intriguing artists in the new generation of pop disruptors.
Polachek’s 2023 North American live dates for The Spiraling Tour will begin on April 14th in Philadelphia and will include stops in Toronto, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more before concluding on May 20th with a sold-out concert at New York City’s iconic Radio City Music Hall. Multiple dates on the trip have already sold out in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and other cities.
