Celebrities Like Falz, Adekunle Gold, Simi, And Others Respond To The Lagos Governorship Election

Nigerian celebrities have opinions on the Lagos governorship election in 2023. Following their postponement from March 11th, 2023, the governorship and state house of assembly elections were held on March 18th, 2023. Unfortunately, once again, some states in Nigeria—Lagos being a notable example—saw a saddening level of violence, voter mistreatment and suppression, disenfranchisement, and other discrepancies.

Celebrities are speaking out about the “show of shame” in the sprawling metropolis of Lagos as polls at ten voting places have been postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to several anomalies. Artists like Falz, Simi, and others who responded to the presidential vote, in which Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC was declared the winner, also responded to the governorship contest in Lagos State between Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC, the incumbent governor, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the LP, and Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran Jandor of the PDP.

Later on election day, Falz posted on Twitter to denounce voter intimidation, violence, and the INEC’s operations. Falz also condemned a portion of the masses who aided corrupt politicians in achieving their evil plans, referring to them as “vile.”

Simi expressed her frustration at the messy election process, saying she “wants out” of the country. But, at the same time, her hubby, Adekunle Gold, also gave his two cents when he stated that the country’s citizens were ladened with the role of enforcing security during the just concluded elections, which was not meant to be.
