During Their Sobriety, Demi Lovato Discusses “Radical Acceptance”

Recently, Demi Lovato gave followers an update on their sobriety journey. Instead of being “California sober,” they switched to becoming “sober sober” in December 2021. The singer discusses their mental state now, some seven months later.

Lovato recently opened up in an interview with Mix 104.1 in Boston about their sobriety. They disclosed that their abstinence is currently going well. When questioned about their sobriety in the past, they would respond that “everyday’s a challenge,” but this is no longer the case.

“At that point in my life I had people around me that wanted me to be sober, I don’t think I wanted it. I tried just smoking weed, I tried doing this, I made all of the bargaining choices,” said Lovato. “I just realized that none of it works for me, what’s come into my life is acceptance of being able to say that voice doesn’t follow me around everyday.”

The singer claims that they “rarely think about substances” due to their profound acceptance. This time in their lives is amazing and “something I never thought would happen to me,” they admit. The making of Lovato’s upcoming album, Holy Fvck, has played a significant role in her recovery. Following therapy, Lovato made the bold decision to start Holy Fvck because rock music is their true love.
