Eydís Evensen’s “Transcending”, North American Tour & Album ‘The Light’

Icelandic Pianist and Composer Eydís Evensen Announces New Album and North American Tour

The renowned Icelandic pianist and composer Eyds Evensen is poised to release her highly awaited second album, ‘The Light,’ on May 26th via XXIM Records/Sony.

Evensen has also planned a North American tour, which will include stops at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, the Lodge Room in Los Angeles, and other venues. This summer’s European live engagements will be followed by a North American tour.

Evensen has released her new track “Transcending” in advance of the album, which showcases her distinct, delicate, and direct style. Her quick-fingered touch on the piano is evident in the track’s thought-provoking backdrop.

Evensen’s ‘The Light’ follows her successful 2021 debut, ‘Bylur,’ which has had over 40 million audio plays to date, and her 2022 EP ‘Frost.’ The new album showcases Evensen’s development as an artist, showcasing her abilities as a pianist, arranger, lyricist, and, for the first time, voice.

Evensen’s new album is influenced by two key themes: the rugged Icelandic landscapes that have moulded her personality, and a personal statement of hope and better times after adversity. ‘The Light’ represents both the inner light that guides us and the natural light that is rare during Iceland’s bleak winters.

Evensen created the album during a time of relief and closure in her life, hoping to transmit to her listeners a message of optimism and resilience that better days are ahead. Her music addresses personal issues, and the cathartic experience of intense composition and performance culminates in ‘The Light.’

Evensen’s music is influenced by the ancient Icelandic choral and poetic traditions, which may be traced back to the famed sagas from the island’s early settlement days. She composed a choral work based on one of her poems for ‘The Light,’ which was performed by the famed Icelandic choir Schola Cantorum Reykjavicensis. The piece is about a magnificent light that froze and eventually survived. Evensen’s singing voice may be heard on her song “Dreaming of Light,” which she also composed.

Evensen has lately appeared at prominent European tastemaker events such as Reeperbahn Festival, ARTE Concert Festival, Iceland Airwaves, and Eurosonic. (ESNS). Following her European and UK gigs in Summer 2023, she will go on a North American tour later this year. Her KEXP ‘Live at Home’ session has received nearly four million views to date.
