Fans Are Already Drawing Parallels Between Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” And Drake’s “Honestly, Nevermind”

For Summer 2022, our favorites are shaking things up, and the reactions have been mixed. To say Drake suffered a torrent of backlash when he released his unexpected album Honestly, Nevermind is an understatement.

Some defended the project by proposing musical interpretations and noting Drizzy’s influence, as well as claiming that this is a new era for the rapper, and fans are now drawing melodic parallels to Beyoncé’s new single, “Break My Soul.”

The song was released ahead of schedule, and it’s been getting a lot of play since then. Naturally, the BeyHive has embraced the disco-house track with open arms, prompting some social media users to recall how harshly they chastised Drake for a similar feel.

Beyoncé’s latest, soon-to-be-hit song is said to have writing credits from her husband Jay-Z, songwriter Adam Pigott, Big Freedia, “and the writers of Robin S’s 1993 hit ‘Show Me Love,’ which is prominently sampled in the song,” according to Variety. After their huge song “Formation,” Freedia and Bey rejoin for the new track.

“Break My Soul,” a power song, has already spawned memes, particularly the lyric about quitting one’s work. Many have quipped that they’re ready to quit their jobs because Beyoncé said so, but let’s hope no one is that devoted to her lyrics.
