David Adeleke, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer better known by his stage name Davido, and his wife’s talent manager Ubi Franklin have denounced a fraudulent Twitter account that impersonates Chioma. On Tuesday, the couple announced on their individual Twitter accounts that Chioma, Davido’s wife, does not have a Twitter account and urged social media followers to ignore posts from the phony page.
Ubi Franklin said that the profile with a moniker identical to that of Chioma’s Instagram page is phony and simply mimicking her in a trending disclaimer post that was backed by a screenshot. However, when Ubi Franklin, who oversees Chioma’s activities, went to his Twitter page to share a tweet that made it plain that the page was phony and solely serving to impersonate Chioma, the matter became more serious as other netizens responded in support and called out its handler. Over the years, This Twitter account has mimicked Chioma’s activities for a while now, and many thought that was the real Chef Chi like on IG and even engaged the account regularly.
“This page is impersonating Chef Chi. Kindly disregard any tweet from this Twitter handle. Thank you.”
On the other side, Davido also used his Twitter page to inform everyone that Chioma didn’t have a Twitter account. Davido tweeted, “Chioma has no Twitter,” in response to Franklin’s disclaimer post, noting that followers had since denounced the account and some had even mocked the account’s owner. Even though it might seem like this is just a minor incident, it illustrates how imposters can use the internet to pose as trustworthy people and how important it is to keep these imposters under control.
