Former President Goodluck Jonathan To Be Honored With African Icon Award In Kigali, Rwanda

Nigeria’s former president Goodluck Jonathan is slated to receive the African Icon Award at the African Heritage Concert and Awards in Kigali, Rwanda.

The former president is one of several notable leaders, including Tanzania’s former president John Pombe Magufuli, who will be honoured at the event on April 1. The award, according to its organizers, is intended to honour people of African heritage who have distinguished themselves across the world.

Ex-President Jonathan making the list will not surprise many, especially his keen followers. The president, who had famously noted that his political ambition is not worth the blood of a Nigerian, has been receiving awards around the world since his failure to secure a second term as president and consequent exit.

Since it was announced that the president will be honoured in April, his fans have taken to social media platforms including Twitter to celebrate him. For others, it is another pretext to compare his rule with that of the current president (Muhammadu Buhari) and point out why he was way better than the Daura-born retired general.

It’s unclear if the former president will be present for the award ceremony. since he is yet to speak on it on social media at the time of writing. Details on that should e out soon. Stay tuned.
