Harry Styles Hits The No. 1 Spot In The U.K. With New Single, “As It Was”

Harry Styles is now charting at number one spot with his brand new single, As It Was, bringing Dave’s four-week reign at the top to an abrupt end. The popstar’s airy, effervescent song enjoyed the biggest opening week of the year so far, according to the Official Charts Company, recording 94,000 in chart sales.

Over the past week alone, the new song was streamed 10.5 million times. The song also earns Styles his second solo number one, in addition to the four already in the bag, many thanks to the defunct One Direction. The new record serves as the lead single to the upcoming third album, Harry’s House, available 20th May.

A website for the album had suggested that the upcoming new LP will reflect on themes such as isolation, domesticity and belonging, bearing daily messages like: “Whisper to your houseplants / Sing to your neighbours” and “Every place you’ve ever been will never stay the same and neither will you”.

While having a convo with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe back in 2020, Styles revealed that the pandemic and the lockdown greatly informed and shaped his new material. “It gives you an ability to have almost like a bird’s-eye view of the world and your life,” he said. Harry’s House comes behind the Grammy Award-winning debút album, ‘Fine Line’, establishing Styles as a celebrated solo act.
