Janet Jackson Assures Fans Of New Music, And Discusses Why She Has Been Unconcerned About Fame

Janet Jackson has taken a sabbatical in recent years, despite being an unstoppable force in the entertainment business since her early days as a child actress in Good Times. She started releasing albums while she was a teenager, but she went on to dominate the small screen, the film business, and, of course, music.

Since her self-titled debut in 1982, Jackson has released 11 studio albums to date. Unbreakable, her final album, was released seven years ago. Jackson and ex-husband Wissam Al Mana welcomed their baby in 2016, and he has been her main attention since then. Her fans have been clamoring for new music, and it appears that she has been in the studio, but she isn’t ready to reveal it just yet.

Jackson addressed why she’s taking a sabbatical during an interview with Essence for their current cover story.

“Even though it’s something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job,” she said. “There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can’t say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There’s so much that I want to do — but my number one job is being a mama.”
