John Legend Talks Candidly About His Dispute With Kanye West

John Legend has opened out about his relationship with Ye, and it appears that their friendship has reached its conclusion. On a recent episode of the CNN podcast “The Axe Files with David Axelrod,” the “Love Me Now” singer discussed how politics impacted his relationship with Ye (previously known as Kanye West).

Ye previously shared on Twitter the private text messages he had had with Legend in 2018. They discussed the rapper’s outspoken endorsement of former President Donald Trump in the texts. Ye then declared his intention to run for president on Twitter in 2020.

The host and former White House employee David Axelrod of the podcast “The Axe Files” questioned Legend about his friendship with Ye despite not agreeing with his actions and political views.

Legend answered, “Well, you know, we aren’t friends as much as we used to be because I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office, his supporting Trump, I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly.”

The musician further explained, “He was upset that I didn’t support his run for presidency of the United States of America for understandable reasons.” Before their conflict, Ye and Legend had been longtime friends.
