Kid Cudi Discloses Having A Stroke While In Rehab In 2016

Kid Cudi has disclosed that he had a stroke in 2016 while receiving treatment. The Man on the Moon rapper revealed that as a result, his speech and movement were temporarily slowed down in an interview with Esquire for a new feature. He remembered, “Everything was fucked.”

Cudi spent months in physical therapy, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he gave an audition for the Broadway play Lobby Hero that he truly felt like himself again. Cudi had to memorize a substantial amount of dialogue in order to read for the role. Although another actor ended up playing the part, Cudi felt pleased of himself for handling the job.

“I proved to myself that I could do it. I needed that at the time,” he revealed to the outlet. “I was happy. Like, damn, my brain is still strong. I didn’t lose something in that shit that happened.” Cudi said he is “ready to wear those shoes and be a role model” as he spoke about the impact he has made as a voice for mental health.

He did, however, emphasize that his strategy is “very, very rock and roll. And I will not apologize for shit. . . . I’m so in tune with my emotions. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned how to manage and control those emotions.”
