Legendary Disco DJ And Vocalist, Franchino, Passes Away At 71

Franchino, an iconic DJ and vocalist for Italian disco and advanced trance, passed away at the age of 71.

The announcement of Franchino’s passing was made on Instagram by his management. The message states that after being hospitalized for “weeks” due to a health issue, Franchino, whose real name was Francesco Principato, passed away on Sunday, May 19.

A private funeral for Franchino’s friends and family will take place, his management announced. In the early 2000s, Franchino was diagnosed with cancer, which he apparently battled until his death, according to an Italian daily Il Tirenno biography on the late DJ and producer. Cancer that starts in the skin’s cells or the tissue lining internal organs like the kidneys or liver is known as carcinoma.

In 1970, Franchino began his DJ career at Florence, Italy’s 7eleven Disco Club. He then took up residencies throughout the nation, including in Tuscany and Elba. After visiting Ibiza frequently, Franchino fell in love with progressive trance and started establishing the genre in Italy in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He was well-known for fusing samples from his live performances and his own vocals, which he frequently recorded from the audience, with elements of disco and progressive trance. Franchino earned the moniker “the storyteller” for his vocal performances, which involved making up stories to go along with his sets.
