M.I.A. Claims She Waited Two Years For The Verses And Threatens To Leak Doja Cat And Nicki Minaj Collaborations

M.I.A. appears to be growing impatient as the release date of her MATA album approaches. The British rapper’s next album is her first since 2016’s AIM, and if it isn’t released by September, she plans to leak it herself. The “Paper Planes” singer shared some exciting news about a forthcoming collaboration with two of the biggest rap artists on Tuesday (August 30) via her Instagram Story, but M.I.A.’s message to her fans wasn’t all that upbeat.

“Coming soon I promise,” she wrote of her long-awaited sixth studio album over a colourful background. “I had to wait two years for a Doja Cat verse… Then a Nicki one… Then a… Nevermind. If MATA isn’t out [in] September I will leak it myself.”

M.I.A. has been making a comeback in recent weeks with songs like “Popular” and “The One,” both of which have been generating a lot of talk for the “Bad Girls” singer. This is not the first time the Hounslow-born musician has threatened to release her own music, according to Uproxx.

She and her record company Interscope have in the past fought, especially over her AIM album, which was mostly ignored by the general public owing to internal legal disputes surrounding the business.
