After revealing they had been “privately” courting for two years, Miss Argentina and Miss Puerto Rico said they had secretly wed. Fabiola Valentn, 22, and Mariana Varela, 26, who was once Miss Puerto Rico and Argentina, first crossed paths in 2020 at the Miss Grand International pageant. Both made it onto the MGI Top 10 list.
The two never publicly acknowledged that they were anything other than friends; instead, they frequently posted on social media about their bond. In a joint Instagram Reel shared with their 245,000 fans, the beauty queens declared both their romance and marriage.
“After deciding to keep our relationship private, we opened the doors to them on a special day,” read the caption.
As of Wednesday morning, The Reel had 2 million views and 142,000 likes. It features a collection of clips from their numerous travels, such as a romantic boat ride in Mexico and a visit to Jobos beach in Puerto Rico. The pair then posted video of the night they got engaged, which had gold “M-A-R-R-Y M-E?” balloons on display, red and white balloons, rose petals, and fairy lights decorating their apartment.
The next scene in the video depicts Valentn giving Varela an engagement ring. The couple’s engagement ring, a cushion-cut diamond on a pavé band, is nearly identical. In 2010, Argentina allowed same-sex unions, and in 2015, Puerto Rico followed suit.
