December is set to be a great time because Netflix’s Matilda The Musical is coming to cinemas and streaming on Christmas day. The musical is based on the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Tony and Olivier award-winning stage production, which is also an adaptation of the novel by the author of “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” Roald Dahl.
The film will open in select theatres on December 9 and begin streaming on Netflix on Christmas day. It stars Alisha Weir, who plays an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind. The cast also includes Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as Matilda’s neglectful parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood; Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, Matilda’s kind teacher; Sindhu Vee as Mrs. Phelps, the story-telling librarian; and, of course, two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson as Trunch Bull, the child-hating headmistress of Crunchem Hall.
According to the film’s synopsis, “Matilda The Musical tells the story of an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination, who dares to take a stand to change her story – with Alisha Weir as Matilda. An inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories whilst also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what’s right, she’s met with miraculous results.”
