NFL Says Eminem Was Not Prevented From Taking A Knee At The Super Bowl

The NFL is denying reports that it attempted to prevent Eminem from taking a knee during his appearance at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Em performed during Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Anderson .Paak and 50 Cent.

Soon as he was done performing his 2002 hit single ‘Lose Yourself’ with .Paak and a live band, Eminem took a knee and held his head, in tribute to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, while the show went on. Kaepernick had taken a knee during the US national anthem back in the 2016 NFL season to protest against police brutality and racial inequality.

Dr. Dre had told TMZ that Eminem’s actions “was Em doing that on his own, and there was no problem with that”. Following that interview yesterday, 14th February, the NFL spokesperson has denied that they tried to stop Eminem from taking a knee prior to the show.

“We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week and were aware that Eminem was going to do that,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said, as reports Sky Sports.

Eminem brought a pop-up of his ‘Mom’s Spaghetti’ restaurant to LA last weekend, just in time for the Super Bowl.
