Nicki Minaj Earns Her Second Diamond Single With “Bang Bang”

Nicki Minaj’s 2014 track “Bang Bang,” which featured Jessie J and Ariana Grande, has earned her her second diamond single.

Three months after its initial release, in October 2014, the single went gold (sales of 500,000 units), and as of Thursday, May 23, the RIAA has announced that it was certified diamond. If an item sells 10 million units, it is considered a single going diamond. One unit is defined as one digital download or 150 on-demand music or video streaming.

Minaj’s second single to receive this certification is “Bang Bang.” On March 29, 2024, “Super Bass,” which first went gold in November of previous year, received a diamond certification. Cardi B is the only rapper female in history to have more diamond hits than the Young Money First Lady. In December 2021, the rapper known as “Bodak Yellow” achieved her third diamond single with the song “I Like It,” which featured Bad Bunny.

Safaree Samuels, Nicki’s ex-boyfriend, recently revealed that he felt ashamed of his appearance in the viral hit video for “Super Bass.” On Tuesday, May 21, the reality star laughed at his own dance movements in the video and reminisced on X, which was formerly Twitter.

Given that Nicki swiftly denounced an AI rendition of “Super Bass” that had been making the rounds online earlier in the week, it’s possible that Safaree was thinking about the song.
