Odogwu!: Burna Boy To Perform At 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League Final
Recently, Afrobeat Artists have dominated international music and events, which is an admirable achievement given that another Grammy-winning musician is about to make history once more in the world of sports. The upcoming UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul will feature headline performances by Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, a heavyweight singer, songwriter, and performer from Nigeria.
On June 10, 2023, the African Giant, who recently performed as the highlight of the renowned NBA All-Star Halftime Show in Utah, will again command attention in the sporting world. According to an official announcement by UEFA, on Thursday, March 16, 2023, Burna Boy will perform in front of more than 74,000 spectators at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, during the finals of European football’s biggest event.
The PH-born artist will make history as the first Nigerian entertainer at the UEFA Champions League Final. The Afrobeats superstar confirmed that he would be headlining the event along with other acts in the announcement video posted on Twitter. The post’s caption read:
Big news! @burnaboy will be performing at the Champions League final in Istanbul alongside another amazing headliner!
This comes after Broderick Stephen Harvey Sr., better known as Steve Harvey, an American television personality, producer, actor, and comedian expressed his views on how the west robs Africans like Burna Boy.
Harvey claims there is a lot of disinformation about Africa and that the only way the rest of the world, particularly black Americans, can learn the truth is by traveling and experiencing it for themselves.
Speaking about Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy, Harvey made it evident that the claim that the musician “stole” music from Americans is false and that the exact opposite is true. Furthermore, Harvey said Africans are the beat, rhythm, and soul, claiming that Americans have stolen all these qualities from Africa. Harvey must have been responding to American propaganda that claimed they were the inspiration for the popular Afrobeats genre, of which Burna Boy is the poster boy.
