Olamide Explains His Decision To Sign Fireboy DML And Asake

Olamide, the renowned Nigerian rapper and owner of YBNL Records, discusses his decision to recruit artists like Fireboy DML and Asake to his label. In a recent podcast interview, the rapper discusses why he chose to sign musicians to his company. Many renowned Nigerian singers, like Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Fireboy DML, and Asake, owe their careers to Olamide, who founded his record label YBNL in 2012.

Olamide’s empire has recently expanded to the point where his current performers, Asake and Fireboy DML, are among the most popular new-age musicians to come out of Africa. Olamide admits that he chose to sign new musicians after he started making too much money and didn’t know what to do with it in a podcast interview with a UK music journalist Ebro. He said his small contribution to society involves assisting aspiring artists in realizing their goals.

Baddo is one of those few genuinely respected OGs in the game and has been influential in boosting the careers of a lot of musicians, either supporting them financially as he did for Portable and Poco Lee when he took up the responsibility of footing the bills for the visuals of their joint music collaboration. He also helped underground indigenous rapper T.I. Blaze achieve the success he enjoys today. Olamide will undoubtedly go down as one of the best to ever do it.
