Paul McCartney Emerges As The First Billionaire Musician In The United Kingdom On Annual Rich List

The Times published its annual Rich List on Friday, May 17, featuring the 81-year-old icon of The Beatles, Paul McCartney, and his wife, Nancy, at No. 165 out of the top 350 people and households.

The “My Love” vocalist debuted on the list at No. 175 the previous year. As per the publication, McCartney has achieved a new milestone of becoming the first musician from the United Kingdom to become a billionaire. This has been made possible by his rising wealth, which has increased by 50 million pounds, from his 2023 Got Back tour, his rising back catalog value, and Beyoncé’s recent rendition of the Beatles’ “Blackbird” on her Cowboy Carter album.

A week after the release of her country album on March 29, the music legend lauded the 32-time Grammy Award winner for her “magnificent” performance of his group’s 1968 classic. The Times’ list includes prominent people including David and Victoria Beckham, Salma Hayek, Sir Elton John, King Charles, and Simon Cowell in addition to McCartney.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling makes an appearance as well. The announcement of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s increasing wealth coincides with the May 8 release on Disney+ of Let It Be, the Beatles film directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg and filmed during the sessions for the band’s legendary 1970 album.
