“PERU” By Fireboy DML Achieves Platinum Status In The US
The news of Fireboy receiving his first RIAA platinum plaque for his popular song Peru went viral on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2023. The Nigerian superstar Fireboy, signed to YBNL Records, made history when his song sold more than a million copies in the US. The fact that a Nigerian lead artist has received the first RIAA platinum plaque shows how well-liked Afrobeats are becoming worldwide. On July 21st, 2021, the single Peru was published, quickly becoming a hit in Nigeria.
It swiftly rose to the top of the charts and won over the hearts of the Nigerian people thanks to its endearing melodies and accessible lyrics. Yet, its success was not exclusive to Nigeria, and soon word about it began to go beyond the country. It didn’t take long for Peru to reach the United States, where it quickly gained popularity among American consumers. As a result, the Recording Industry Association of America awarded the single its Gold certification (RIAA).
And when word of it spread, Peru’s sales reached over a million by the end of 2021, earning it a Double Platinum certification from the RIAA. This honor reflects Fireboy’s team’s dedication and the Afrobeats genre’s expanding global appeal. In addition to Davido, CKay, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema, Fireboy is the latest Nigerian lead artist to get an RIAA platinum award.
