Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, commonly known as Phyno, a Nigerian indigenous rapper, has spoken out about the viral rumors that he has Sickle Cell Anaemia. However, in a tweet on Wednesday, the Enugu State native was obliged to clarify. Ele Peter, a fan, claimed in a tweet that his affection for the singer tripled when she discovered he had sickle cell disease.
She wrote, “Since I heard Phyno has sickle cell the love tripled, I pray God grants him the strength to keep fighting.”
Responding to Ele’s remarks, Phyno wrote, “Lol. No, I do not have sickle cell. Love to everyone fighting it though.”
It is worth noting that the Anambra-born but Enugu-based music sensation has accomplished great things in Africa. Aside from the various prizes he has received, Phyno has been able to draw thousands of people to a festival he founded in 2015, the PhynoFest, with the debut edition drawing a record attendance of 12,000 people at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Phyno is the founder and owner of Penthauze Music, a Nigerian record label he created after leaving Sputnet Records, where he began his career. The label debuted in 2008 and has since signed various artists, including the outstanding Superboy Cheque. Furthermore, Phyno has gone beyond music to demonstrate other talents that continue to gain him new fans. Phyno has also made his film debut in “Lionheart,” a blockbuster Nollywood film.
