PinkPantheress Is BBC’s Sound Of 2022 Poll Winner

PinkPantheress has been declared the winner of the BBC Sound of 2022 poll. She beats the likes of Wet Leg, Mimi Webb, Lola Young, and Central Cee.

The BBC Sound Of 2022 poll is an annual event that identifies the next big name in popular music. Since the pool started, several of its winners have gone on to have explosive careers. They include Adele and Sam Smith.

PinkPantheress has been called a gem that was hiding in plain sight. Before her Sound of 2022 triumph, the Bath native was creating beats on garage Band and sharing the same on TikTok.

She snapped attention and ended up getting a recording deal with Parlophone Records in April 2021. In October of the same year, she released her debut mixtape dubbed “To Hell With It.” The project debuted at no, 20 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart.

Interestingly, in the same month she released her mixtape, she had made it to Billboard’s “21 under 21” list. In conversation with the website, she had noted that she had to sing on top of samples because she was a terrible producer

In her words, she’s a big fan of writing lyrics and melodies and wasn’t particularly bothered about collaborating with people. She only needed a good producer.
