Portable Declines N5m Offer to Perform at Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Concert

Other Artists Thrill Fans at the Event

In a surprising turn of events, popular Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, known professionally as Portable, declined an offer to perform at President-elect Bola Tinubu’s inauguration concert, the Renewed Hope Concert. The singer revealed that the event organizers offered him N5 million, which was half of his expected performance fee.

Portable, known for his hit song “Akoi Tinubu”, expressed his disappointment over the situation. He felt his efforts in promoting Tinubu during the election campaign were not adequately appreciated. In a series of Instagram posts, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the offer, stating that he deserved better for his contributions.

Despite Portable’s absence, the Renewed Hope Concert was a grand affair with electrifying performances from over 46 musicians. The event, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, saw performances from industry heavyweights such as Buju, Waje, Brymo, Fireboy, Kaycee, Asake, Timaya, Pasuma, Naira Marley, Tony Tetuila, and Seyi Vibes, among others.

The concert was announced by leaders of the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress, including Tinubu’s son, Seyi, to celebrate young people for their contribution to the party’s victory during the general elections. Fans were thrilled by the performances, with many taking to social media to express their excitement.

The Chairman, Renewed Hope Concert Media Committee, Ademuyiwa Taofeek, stated that the event was planned as an inclusive celebratory activity for young people who contributed to the party’s victory. He said, “It is an inclusive celebration of young people across the country who knocked on doors, persuaded friends, braved great risks, and stood firm to ensure the safe delivery of the Renewed Hope agenda of our next President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.”

Despite the controversy surrounding Portable’s refusal to perform, the Renewed Hope Concert was a success, showcasing the vibrant and diverse talent in the Nigerian music industry. The event not only celebrated the incoming administration but also highlighted the significant role of young people in the political process.
