“Renaissance” By Beyoncé Enters The Billboard 200 At No. 1

Beyoncé became the first female artist to achieve this feat in 2022 with the release of her latest album, Renaissance, at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums list. In its first week of availability, the album sold 190,000 physical copies and garnered 332,000 equivalent album units.

Only Harry Styles’ Harry’s House album, which sold a total of 521,500 units after going on sale on May 20, 2022, was able to outsell Beyoncé in 2022, regardless of the artist’s gender. In addition, the achievement signifies that each of her seven solo albums has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. She did so first among female artists.

Beyoncé collaborated behind the scenes on Renaissance alongside Nova Wav, The-Dream, Symbolyc One, A. G. Cook, Honey Dijon, Beam, Tricky Stewart, BloodPop, Skrillex, Hit-Boy, No I.D., P2J, and others before it was published on July 29. The only featured artists are Beam, Grace Jones, and Tems, who are all given credit.

Despite receiving a lot of positive feedback, Beyoncé ran afoul of some fans for using an ableist slur in the song “Heated”‘s lyrics. Furthermore, Kelis criticized her for using her 2003 single “Milkshake” into the song “Energy.” Since then, Beyoncé has modified the song’s lyrics to “Heated” and taken out the “Milkshake” interpolation from “Energy.”
