Ronnie Hillman, A Super Bowl Champion, Dies At Age 31 After A Cancer Struggle

Ronnie Hillman, a former running back for the Denver Broncos, lost his battle with cancer on December 21. His family has confirmed this. He had 31 years of age.

The family posted a message to Ronnie K. Hillman Jr.’s official Instagram account, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, & father, Ronnie K. Hillman Jr.”

Hours before the former NFL player passed away; his family released a statement explaining that Hillman had been given an unsuccessful diagnosis of renal medullary carcinoma in August, which is “a rare but highly aggressive neoplasm form of cancer that primarily affects young African Americans with sickle cell trait.” They added that the running back was in hospice care and was “kept comfortable and out of pain” beside a picture of him lying on the field covered in confetti following the Denver Broncos’ victory in the 2016 Super Bowl.

The Denver Broncos selected Hillman in the 2012 draft, and he played for them until 2016. He was a member of their AFC Championship teams in 2013 and 2015, and he also assisted them in winning the Super Bowl 50. Hillman played for the Los Angeles Chargers and the Minnesota Vikings after his tenure with the Broncos. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, according to the NFL. However, he never played for the team.
