Schwarzenegger Lost Muscle To Star In Conan

Arnold Schwarzenegger reportedly lost muscle to star in Conan because he was too ripped for the role.

It’s crazy what our faves must go through to prepare for a role. However, it is always worth it when the film receives the response it deserves. Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of many stars who had to go through a rigorous routine to prepare for a role.

The glorified bodybuilder who found fame in the film industry after almost a decade of hard work starred in the hit film “Conan the Barbarian.” If you loved him in it, then you should know what he had to give up to be perfect in it. He gave up muscle, a lot of it.

The film is reportedly the star’s first successful movie. It pushed him straight to the top and opened doors for him to make even bigger films. Schwarzenegger has revealed that following the poor performance of his first film, “Hercules In New York,” he struggled to get lead roles.

However, he was selected to play the lead in “Conan the Barbarian.” He also revealed that he had to build muscle to star in the film. He had to undergo a rigorous routine to make this happen. However, after developing muscles for the role, he could not swing his sword properly. Then, the director, John Milius, asked him to lose some muscle.

He said, “Great memories, but here is the reality. Working with John Milius was fantastic because he was so hard-core.” He continued, “But it is true that he thought I looked too much like a bodybuilder. I needed to lose some of the cuts because I had just won Mr. Olympia, and I was way too ripped to be a barbarian.”
