Securing The Bag: Portable Joins Accord Party’s Campaign For 2023 Elections

It is not surprising that Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, has recently joined the Oyo state campaign team for the Accord Party. When he announced his support for Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in July of last year, the Zazuu star sparked controversy.

After six months, Portable has now been observed in Oyo state canvassing for the Accord Party. He joined the Shina Peller campaign, which is running for re-election in the Oyo federal seat of Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa. In addition, in engaging potential voters and spreading the word about the Accord Party, Portable has made appearances in several nearby towns.

It is nice to see Portable give his chosen candidate such emotional support. However, he is doing more to promote awareness of the issue and build support by assuming the position of campaigner. Ideally, this will result in higher voter turnout for the Accord Party in Oyo state and elsewhere.

The action taken by Portable signals a turn for the better from the historic dispute he had with Davido on their respective political stances. It serves as a reminder that partisanship should not be taken too far and that it is acceptable to back opposing causes without feeling ill will.

Overall, Portable’s recent choice to support the Oyo state campaign of the Accord Party is an admirable one.
