Presented by Django Music, the tour consists of eighteen shows, two of which—in Brooklyn, New York, and Chicago—will be free of charge. Throughout his tour, the younger sibling of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti will perform a selection of tracks from his vast music collection, which continues the legacy of his father’s groundbreaking style of blending American funk and jazz with West African rhythms and socially conscious themes. Several members of Egypt 80 were a part of Fela’s initial lineup when Seun Kuti took over as band leader at the age of 14.

In addition, they received a Grammy nomination for Black Times in the Best World Music Album category in 2019, but the Soweto Gospel Choir’s Freedom won. The Nigerian band played as the featured act at The Independent in San Francisco in 2022, which was their last trip to North America.

Concurrently, fellow Afrobeat pioneers BANTU have revealed their European summer tour schedule, which begins on May 31 and runs through July 21 through nine cities in Germany and Switzerland.
