Tems Receives Congratulations From President Buhari And Tinubu After Grammy Win

Temilade Openiyi, commonly known as Tems, an Afrobeats singer, has received appreciation from President Muhammadu Buhari for winning a Grammy Award at the renowned event of 2023. Femi Adesina, the president’s spokesperson, stated on Monday that Buhari was proud of the young singer’s accomplishments and noted that she had once again brought attention to Nigeria on a global scale.

Tems made history on February 5 when she took home the Grammy Award for “Best Melodic Rap Performance.” The President’s statements reveal delight in her abilities and qualities because she is the first Nigerian woman to accomplish such a feat. Buhari also praised artist Burna Boy, who was nominated for a Grammy Award in two categories but did not take home the prize.

In the same vein, All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also congratulated the phenomenal songstress. The APC presidential contender congratulated the Nigerian artist on Twitter using his official account. Tems was nominated for three Grammys in 2023 (Best Rap Song, Best Melodic Rap Performance for Future’s “Wait For U,” and as a featured artist on Beyonce’s nominated “Renaissance” album for Album of the Year).

Many Nigerians, nevertheless, do not believe Tinubu’s congratulations to be sincere. While some people think he is only trying to win votes, others are very certain he did not write or share the tweet himself.
