To Commemorate “What’s Love Got To Do With It’s” 40th Anniversary, Mattel Has Released A Tina Turner Barbie Doll

With their own limited-edition Barbie dolls, Mattel has honored a number of remarkable women throughout the years, including Maya Angelou and Madam C.J. Walker, the first self-made millionaire in America. And only a few months after a miniature of Queen Elizabeth II was made available, they are now honoring a new kind of royal: the Rock & Roll Queen. The Tina Turner Barbie doll is coming!

The Tina Turner Barbie doll, which is a part of the company’s Signature Music Series, is dressed in the well-known ensemble from the “What’s Love Got to Do With It” music video, complete with her distinctively textured hair, denim jacket, black dress, matching tights, and pumps.

The doll honors the song’s 40th anniversary. When it was released in 1984, the song became Turner’s first and only No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. She would also receive three of the highest honors, the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It was used as the title of her biopic ten years later, in which Angela Bassett starred.

Turner may have only had one song reach the top of the Billboard charts, but she has done much more in the music business. She has earned 12 Grammy Awards, sold 100 million records worldwide, and made Rolling Stone’s cover as the magazine’s first Black artist and female.
