According to reports, the Nigerian police have raided Seun Kuti’s home for a search after a Lagos court granted the renowned Afrobeat singer bail after being summoned to court by the Nigerian Police.
As a result of being caught on camera punching a police officer on Lagos’ third mainland bridge, the Grammy-nominated artist gained national attention. Following the terrible occurrence, Seun Kuti presented himself and was taken into custody by the Nigerian police force early morning of May 15, 2023.
To find further evidence against the musician, police from the Lagos State Police Command reportedly barged into Seun Kuti’s Akin Osiyemi home two days after on May 17, 2023, off Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos. The police allegedly searched the musician’s residence while bringing him along, and once they were through, they reportedly took his wife’s phone to find incriminating materials.
In violation of Section 356 of the Criminal Code Act, Seun was accused of assaulting a police officer and charged. However, after ordering police to wrap up their investigation within 48 hours, Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun released the singer on bail, and the Nigerian Police force is reportedly still not satisfied with the outcome as they seek to indict him.
