With A Spectacular New Music Video, Christina Aguilera Improves “Beautiful” For The Modern Era

The music video for Christina Aguilera’s song “Beautiful” from her album “Stripped” was first released 20 years ago, and the singer revamped the music video to commemorate the occasion. Aguilera uploaded “Beautiful (2022 Version)” to YouTube on Wednesday. The song, which was first published in 2002, quickly rose to fame as an anthem for self-acceptance and love.

In the 2022 version, Aguilera continues to use the song’s message to caution young girls and boys about the risks of social media’s influence on children, showing how girls are inundated with images of women with youthful faces and voluptuous bodies while boys are encouraged to have the chiseled body of an action hero.

Through the expose of liposuction, bodybuilding, and other cosmetic operations, children are either seen putting up cameras to film what they are pressured to look like or having the camera trained on themselves to demonstrate how they are accepting these standards throughout the video.

By portraying a young, bigger girl staring into a vending machine filled with diet pills and a boy daydreaming about how to terminate his life in a hospital room, the music video also exposes how isolated these messages are. The 20th anniversary commemoration of the “Stripped” album is formally launched with the release of the new music video.
