Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua was born to Yeta and Robert Joshua on 15 October 1989 in Watford, Hertfordshire. His father is of Irish and Nigerian origin, and his mother is from Nigeria.
Joshua attended Mayflower School in Ikenne during his formative years in Nigeria. He returned to the UK halfway through Year Seven to enroll at Kings Langley Secondary School when his parents divorced when he was 12. His middle name, Oluwafemi, led to him being called “Femi” by his friends and former teachers when growing up on the Meriden Estate in Garston, Hertfordshire. He stood out in football and sports, breaking the school record for the Year Nine 100-meter dash in 11.6 seconds.
