On June 28, 1963, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, was born in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. On May 29, 2007, he was elected as the state’s thirteenth governor. On April 26, 2011, he was satisfactorily re-elected for a second term, and on May 29, 2015, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, his successor from the same All Progressives Congress, was sworn in. After that, President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him as Minister of power, works, and housing in 2015 and then Minister of works and housing in 2019. One of Nigeria’s most admired leaders, Fashola, has made significant contributions to the country’s development. At the state and federal levels, he has held several leadership positions.

Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State in southwest Nigeria, is where Abimbola was born. She received a diploma certificate and training as a secretary at the Lagoon Secretarial College in Lagos. The University of Lagos later awarded her a certificate in computer science. Before joining the British Council in 1987, she worked briefly as a trainee journalist at the Daily Sketch. However, she left the organization in 2006 after her husband, Babatunde Fashola, was chosen as the candidate for governor of his party and the disbanded Action Congress of Nigeria.

After completing the professional training program at the Nigerian Law School in Lagos between 1987 and 1988, he was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in November 1988 as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Fashola, a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has won honors and been given certificates of merit, including the University of Benin Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. He also received the Platinum Award from the Lagos State Public Service Club for his exceptional development work. In addition, the Alliance for Democracy presented the “Igbogbo Bayeku Local Government Award” in honor of contributions made to the party’s success.
Babatunde Fashola is the second law graduate from the University of Benin and the first graduate of the Nigerian Law School to receive the professional rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He is also a patron of the Law Students Association of the University of Benin. Fashola is also the first Chief of Staff ever to get such an honor. Babatunde Fashola is an Associate of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Taxation and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
President Muhammadu Buhari awarded him the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in Nigeria in October 2022.
