Dino Melaye, a politician from Nigeria who was born on January 7, 1974, served as a senator from the 8th Nigerian National Assembly and represented the Kogi West Senatorial District. He is from Ayetoro Gbede in Kogi State’s Ijumu Local Government Area. Former senator Dino Melaye is a member of the (Nigeria) and the People’s Democratic Party. He left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015, but after months of political conflict with the Kogi State governor, he joined the PDP again in the run-up to the 2019 elections. He served as the chairman of the Senate’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja committee. And briefly, he became the chairman of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Aviation.

Politics
Senator Dino Melaye’s political career began when he rose to prominence as a student union leader at his university. Additionally, he was a well-known representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Later, he held the Secretary-General position for the Commonwealth Youth Council and the African Youth Council. Because of his work as a student leader, Olusegun Obasanjo, the then-president of Nigeria, selected him to head the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths. Melaye entered partisan politics in 2007 when he won a seat in the National House of Representatives for the People’s Democratic Party’s Kabba/Ijumu federal constituency.
He failed to win re-election to the National Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives, but he later made a comeback as a Senator for Kogi West in 2015. He played a crucial role in Senator Bukola Saraki’s candidacy to become Senate President in 2015. Melaye headed the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja while a senator. Before leaving the esteemed house, he also served as chair of the Senate Committee on Aviation.
Dino was re-elected to the Senate in 2019. However, his election was later overturned by a court injunction, which mandated re-election. However, Dino lost his seat in the red chamber when Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was pronounced the winner after winning the rerun.
