Israel Adesanya Biography
He was born in Lagos on July 22, 1989, and is the eldest of five children. His father, Oluwafemi, is an accountant, and his mother, Taiwo, is a nurse. Adesanya attended Chrisland School, Opebi, and enrolled in the school’s after-school taekwondo club until his mother pulled him out because of a broken arm. He briefly started high school at Bells High School, Ota, but didn’t finish because his parents quickly moved elsewhere.
In 1999, he moved to Ghana with his family for ten months, but his parents wanted their children to receive an accredited higher education. So he moved to Rotorua, New Zealand, at ten and attended Rotorua Boys’ High School. Adesanya was not interested in sports in high school; instead, he is interested in Japanese anime such as Death Note and the Naruto manga series. He was bullied in high school and attributed the abuse he suffered to his decision to pursue martial arts later when growing up. At 19, he started kickboxing, inspired by ‘Ong-Bak,’ an action movie starring Tony Jaa, in 2008.
Following high school graduation, Adesanyapursued higher education with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Design at the Universal College of Learning in Whanganui.

Israel Adesanya trained in Muay Thai for a year before having his first amateur MMA fight against Neroni Savaiinaea in 2009. Israel made his professional debut in 2012. He competed in Hong Kong, Australia, and China for the next half-decade before signing with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in December 2017.
