Mercy Aigbe Biography

Mercy Aigbe is a Nigerian actress and entrepreneur and easily one of the most visible faces in the movie industry popularly known as Nollywood. Although born in Benin, the Edo state capital. she spent most of her life in Lagos, where she ended up having her primary and secondary education.

After obtaining a WAEC certificate, she attend the Polytechnic Ibadan, where she obtained a national diploma in financial studies. Thereafter, she attended the University of Lagos.

That was in 2001 and also the year her acting career began, At the University of Lagos, she was enrolled in the theatre arts department. The decision was easy to make, having realized her calling was in acting. Her first flick was in the Yoruba movie industry, jocularly called Yoruwood.

In the intervening years, she had shown her versatility by appearing in English flicks as well. In the course of her career, she had featured in over 20 movies and counting. She has also won multiple awards for her creative contributions.

These days, she is more in the news for her family life and personal choices than for her movies.

Mercy Aigbe was previously married to Lanre Gentry. The two got married in a colourful ceremony in 2-13 and remained married until 2019 when the marriage collapsed. Before the eventual divorce, the couple had a wonderful relationship sporadically blemished by claims of assault.

The actress often complained of assault from Lanre. At some point, images of her bruised face surfaced online, but Lanre claimed that it was pictures taken from the set of one of her films and not real. Despite being divorced now, they sporadically lob grenades at each other on social media.
