American actor Sean Patrick Astin was born on February 25, 1971. He was adopted by actor John Astin and is the son of actress Patty Duke. He has won numerous awards, including two Young Artist Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Moreover, for the short film Kangaroo Court, he received an Academy Award nomination in 1994 for Best Live Action Short Film. From his mother, Astin has German and Irish lineage, and through his biological father, he has Austrian and Polish Jewish ancestry.
He went to Catholic school before switching to Protestantism. Astin studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory in Los Angeles while attending Crossroads High School for the Arts. He earned a B.A. in History and English from UCLA and graduated with honors (American literature and culture). Astin is the adoptive father of Duke’s son, actor Sean Astin, who was born to his second wife, actress Patty Duke.
