Asake began the year with a new surprise single, “Yoga,” which he announced only hours before its release. The Magic Sticks-produced song starts on a rather somber note and later ushers in the vocals of Asake and his backup vocals singing the chorus.
In the one long verse rendered by the singing sensation, he expresses himself through sentimental melodies and relatable lyrics. He prioritizes his mental health and values his peace and personal space, which fuels the need to distance himself from people’s bullshit as much as possible.
Asake sings of enemies, betrayal, and fair-weather friends. He also seizes the opportunity to encourage his listeners going through the motions to stand on their ten toes and keep going. He also adds that being away from everyone and staying in his zone does not mean he is not alright. On that note, he pleads that no one upset his calm, needed getaways from the public eye.
Asake also dished a soothing and colorful music video to accompany the audio release. The concept of the visual, shot and chopped by the iconic TG Omori, becomes the icing on the cake as it portrays and brings to life the song’s message.
In one scene, Asake can be seen in a Yoga pose, meditating with an older woman that would pass for a hippie and psychic at first glance.
Away from where he is known, the singer joins local dwellers in some of their activities which probably helps keep him grounded as a human. However, what stands out the most are his demonstrations and body gestures while he sang his verse. T
he way he moved and scattered his locs while singing with his eyes shut and sometimes staring eerily into the cam was a sight for sore eyes, giving all the feels it should. Both the song and the music video were ingeniously put together.
