Joeboy &Quot;Body &Amp; Soul&Quot; Album Review, Yours Truly, Reviews, March 28, 2024

Nigerian musician Joeboy has released his most recent album, Body & Soul, riding the crest of an exciting global surge in Afro-pop sounds. This song showcases Joeboy’s skill at crafting love ballads with African and Caribbean elements.

Joeboy, a Lagos native who has amassed over 3 billion streams and worked with musicians like Diplo, Bad Bunny, and Mr. Eazi, has established himself as one of the top hitmakers in Afrobeats. Media sources, including Rolling Stone, COLORS, Vice, Billboard, Complex, and The FADER, have featured his music.

In 2019, Joeboy launched his first EP and later appeared alongside DJ Neptune and Mr. Eazi on the popular song Nobody. His debut record, Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic, was released in 2021 and was well-received. Rolling Stone rated it one of the year’s top albums.

The Lagos-born artist’s well-streamed singles, including the title tune, “Duffel Bag,” “Contour,” and “Sip (Alcohol),” are included on the fifteen-track album. Collaborations with Joeboy’s peers, including BNXN, ODUMODUBLVXK, CKay, Oxlade, and others, are also included on this album. ‘Chicken, Spice & Curry’ also has an oddball collaboration with American rapper Ludacris. The captivating tracklisting from the adoration-filled album was created by E Kelly, Tempoe, Dra, Tytanium, Yung Willis, Timmy, and Kemena.

Album Art

Joeboy &Quot;Body &Amp; Soul&Quot; Album Review, Yours Truly, Reviews, March 28, 2024

The Album art has a shirtless Joeboy standing next to his sweet ride as he looks to be pondering under the night skies, as a beautiful lady is seen to be seated in the automobile and waits for him.

Tracks And Features

The 15-track album opens with the first feature, which has an impressive line-up of BNXN and ODUMODUBLVK titled “Normally.” The Chill opener has the trio sing -and rap about blessings, how they have handled real-life stresses, and how they choose to focus on their blessings more. Odomodu takes his Afro-drilled verse a notch up, and the listener cannot help but feel this smooth opener that sets the tone for the listening journey ahead.

The next track, also titled “Body and Soul,” has the sultry Joeboy doing his thing and giving the listener the vibe as his verses touch upon themes of Love, Desire, Romance, and Relationships. The melody remains enchanting and is one of the album’s top tracks, as the beat arrangement and composition are incredible.

“Check My Phone” has Joeboy telling his love interest that he is loyal and down for her alone. He sings on themes that revolve around Love and Relationships as he paints a vivid picture of an insecure relationship.

“Duffel Bag” is a masterpiece that showcases Joeboy’s exceptional talent and originality. The track is a fusion of Afro-pop and Afrobeat with catchy lyrics and a groovy beat that will get listeners bopping. He once again proves his musical prowess and ability to create songs that resonate with his audience. He plays the role of an Aristo Sugar Daddy with more than enough to splurge in the video that sees BBN Allysyn as a vixen.

Listeners who love beautiful melodies and rhythms will sway to “Contour,” arguably the album’s best track. The Amazing vocalist sings if a love interest who seems to be playing games with his emotions. He asks her to come clean to ensure he is “running the race right.” The chill jam touches on the themes of infidelity and how it has affected many relationships in the future. The melody is catchy, and Joyboy delivers vocals to blend.

CKay comes in on “Wetin Be Love” with Joeboy as they ask what love is if there’s no money involved. The duo’s message seems to hint at the glaring reality in the present times that love thrives when financial stability is assured. The message is profound, especially as CKay recollects his broke days compared to the present day.

“Woman” has Oxlade and Joeboy going beast mode on the amapiano vibe. The track is guaranteed to get you dancing and is also one of the quite melodious tracks of the album, with a pull that shows that it will be a mainstay in clubs’ playlists.

Ludacris continues his features with Afrobeats acts as he comes in on “Chicken, Spice, And Curry.” The duo lauds appreciation for their love interest and the female gender in general. “Better” is produced by Tempoe, and listeners already know what to expect from a Tempoe-collaboration. Joeboy seems to hint at domestic violence on this track as he advises one to choose their preference of partners by prioritizing one who treats them better, as that is an essential criterion alongside love.

“Sip Alcohol needs no introduction as the social-media craze of a year ago is one of the Top tracks of this project. The track is truly a Joeboy Masterpiece, and the delivery is excellent. In addition, Kamena is featured in “The Best For You,” where the duo tells their significant other that they care and remain interested in their best.

The Closing track, “Halle,” has Joeboy equating his blessings as something sent by God, and he expresses his gratitude and asserts that he knows that God will continue keeping and guiding him while telling his detractors that he leaves them with his God.

Album Summary

Joeboy rarely speaks about his commercial success in an industry where sales determine perception. Many say He made no effort to build a following that earned a reputation for themselves and upheld his honor, nor did he engage in the kind of controversy typical of artists of his caliber. For example, he hardly spoke when the most prominent singer was accused of stealing his tune -he has just been interested in releasing beautiful music to the music community.

But With “Body & Soul,” Joeboy accepts his uniqueness and produces high-quality work; this time, he is ready to stake a claim. In his sophomore album “Body & Soul,” Joeboy embraces this romantic side, creating a calming body of work that bravely departs from the toxic love that has been the dominating narrative in the business.
