Following his graduation from OAU, Fireboy planned to move back home to Abeokuta but finally decided to move to Lagos to pursue a music career. While in Lagos, he lived with friends he made at the university and attended Live music shows. Later, he began making music with a friend who had music equipment at home. He also started writing songs for people, which he sold from N30k to N50k. He also released some songs on his own, including “King.”

In 2018, Seyi Tinubu introduced Olamide to Fireboy’s music, after which he reached out to him and offered him a record deal. In October of the same year, Fireboy signed with Olamide’s YBNL Nation. The signing was announced on Instagram.

Fireboy has stated that he decided to make his songwriting the quality that sets him apart in the Nigerian music industry. That worked quite well for him.

Fireboy’s breakthrough single “Jealous” was released as part of the collaborative album “YBNL Mafia Family.” It was later re-released on March 25th, 2019. The song was produced by Cracker Mallo. A follow-up, “What If I Say,” was released on June 14, 2019, after which “King” was re-released in August of the same year.
